Art and Cultural center at Sewa Mandir inaugrated by MD & CEO, CSC India
Indore, August 7, 2002: Dr. Arun K Maheshwari, MD and CEO, Computer Sciences Corporation India Pvt. Ltd. today inaugurated an Art and Culture center at the premises of Sewa Mandir, at Jeevan Deep Colony. The center has been renovated by CSC India and will help provide a venue for the students of the institution to display their talents and works of art. Speaking to journalists at the inauguration, Dr. Arun K. Maheshwari, said, “ We are now extending the reach of CSC India’s social and community projects and will continue helping similar causes in the future. We hope that people of Indore will also come ahead and lend support to similar projects. CSC India has always been a socially conscious company since its inception and has been supporting the local community with different initiatives.”
SEWA MANDIR has been running a school for deaf, dumb and blind since 1921 and has won laurels at national and international levels. In addition to regular studies the students learn drawing, painting, embroidery, papier-mâché etc.
CSC is supporting Sewa Mandir in its mission of total development of these children. The aim is to bring them on par with other normal children.
CSC’s Social Services Committee has spearheaded many causes including adopting three villages, Sagarpaisa, Nayagaon and Lalpura located on the outskirts of Indore.
In two of the three the activities have so far included provision of potable drinking water; the school buildings have been refurbished and equipped by CSC.
The schools offer both primary and adult education and the current strength includes 161 children and 55 adults including 23 women.
CSC pays the salaries of the teachers, provides school uniforms, books and notebooks to all school children and encourages the children and parents to be more hygienic and orderly. CSC is providing ‘Shidha’ Science courses to the villagers, which imparts techniques, to help them not only heal ailments, but also helps them in increasing the productivity of their cultivated lands. This technique is also helping the villagers develop good moral practices.
CSC has adopted a third village called Lalpura that is 39 km from Indore where out of the 200 children living there, only 12 to 15 % are literate. CSC is supporting them in building the school infrastructure and providing them with all basic requirements of school education. Medical facilities and ‘shidha’ science courses are also provided to this village.
These initiatives have met with excellent response and the number of school-going people has almost tripled over the past year.
In addition, it has become a regular feature for CSC employees to celebrate all important festivals and national days at these villages. CSC is also providing medical facilities to the residents of the two villages with the help of practitioners from Indore. This facility is being provided free of cost.
CSC has also adopted a ‘Blood donation drive’ and has for four successive years since 1999, organized blood donation camps at its premises in Indore. These camps have met with excellent response and have seen the numbers of donors increase every year. More than 125 CSC employees and associates came forward to donate blood at the camp held with the help of M.Y. Hospital in March this year.
CSC India was incorporated in September 1996 and moved into its present premises at Indore in February 1997. It currently employs over 700 professionals across it two centers at Indore and Noida.
